On Saturday, December 2nd, 2017, The Great River Community Association hosted our annual Great River Christmas Tree Lighting.
The event brought together almost 200 community members to share in the holiday spirit.
Attendees gathered at the entrance for Santa's arrival on the Great River Fire Department's Fire Truck. Santa was greeted and escorted into his cozy and festive living room where families were able to have a personal meet-and-greet and turn in their letters to Santa. There was a community ceremony/blessing of the children inside one of Great River's historical icons, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, led by Father Ellis Tommaseo.
While walking the property, children and adults were enjoying our infamous hot chocolate bar, sitting fireside listening to our professional acoustic guitar singer, decorating gingerbread cookies, eating New York style pretzels, crafting and making reindeer food to ensure that Santa and his reindeer stop by their home on Christmas.
The feel of Christmas was in the air and the joy on everyone's faces was a sight not to be missed. The event concluded with Santa, lighting a traditional Blue Spruce Christmas Tree while our community gathered to enjoy the sparkling view.
The event would not be complete without thanking all of our volunteers, community members who made donation contributions, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Great River Fire Department and everyone who made this event possible.
We hope you all had as much fun as we did and are already looking forward to our next community event!
